Process

Working with me

Antony Paul

I've delivered software for huge brands and small local businesses

I've refined my process over the years, and this is how I'd typically manage a project. With that said, every project is unique, and I'm always happy to shape it according to what you need!

  1. Find the real problem

Before designing anything, I make sure we're solving the right problem. I sit down with you and the people closest to it, learn how things work today, and check it against your own data. Often the real problem turns out to be different from the one we started with.

  2. A fixed-price plan

For a fixed price, you get a written plan and proposal: the problem we found, the solution we've agreed, how it will be built in full technical detail, how long it will take and what it will cost. It's complete enough for anyone to build from, so you're free to go ahead with me or not.

  3. Quick wins first

I start with the changes that can be made quickly, so you see real improvements early on.

  4. Build in phases

Larger projects are built in phases. Everything is fully tested and signed off by you before it goes live, and changes come in gradually, to keep the risk low and make sure everything runs smoothly.

  5. Hand over

Everything is handed over to you, tested and documented. It's built to stand on its own, so you can run it and fix it without me.

  6. Changes and improvements

If you want changes or improvements later, that's no problem, and they're usually quick to make. I can do these as ad-hoc projects, or as part of a monthly retainer.

Development

Do you have your own development team?

If you do, fantastic. But it's no problem if you don't.

Plenty of businesses don't have their own development team, and you definitely don't need one to work with me.

Yes, we have developers

I work alongside them, the way they already work. Every change goes to them first, and they check and approve it before it goes live. Your code stays in their hands, and they can stay on their own work.

No, we don't have developers

I look after all of it, from building it to putting it live. I check every change before it goes live and write down how everything works, so it's yours to run, and any developer could pick it up later.

Your data

Your data stays in your systems

I only work through the access you give me, and you can take it away whenever you like.

I'm happy to sign an NDA before you tell me anything sensitive, so what we talk about stays between us. If the work involves personal details, like your customers' names and contact details, I'll also sign a data processing agreement, which sets out exactly how they're handled.
